Bhavesh Zala’s Artist statement

As a plein air artist, my primary goal is to reach the essence of the spot- to expose an aesthetically hidden place with watercolor. I like to represent high complexity with simplicity. Most of my paintings dominate light and light is such an elusive element of a landscape painting, as it always dances on objects. When I am playing with light, I try to reach the highest quality of light.

Light is the soul of a landscape painting which indicates the quality of the painting, but darkness is the only opportunity to reach the light.

Interplay of light and shade produces a chiaroscuro effect and draws the viewer’s eyes into the painting with ease and comfort. Some of my paintings dominate the wood. I love the antiqueness of the wood, texture, colors and even the smell of wood. Wood has always called me and inspired. When light meets wood, it creates amazing and fantastic golden ambience. I fall in love with this amalgamation and get captured. Here are some other works from my series of rainy night, concrete jungle and country side with interesting plays of light and shade.
